Surgical anatomy of the upper esophagus related to robot-assisted cervical esophagectomy

Abstract Robot-assisted cervical esophagectomy (RACE) enables radical surgery for tumors of the middle and upper esophagus, avoiding a transthoracic approach. However, the cervical access, narrow working space, and complex topographic anatomy make this procedure particularly demanding. Our study offers a stepwise description of appropriate dissection planes and anatomical landmarks to facilitate RACE. In 1924, reports were published by Brumm and Mandl and by Swertlow. After 1930, the technique and the indications were established by White in the United States and Leriche and Fontaine in Europe.

The aim of this study was to define the diagnostic value of CDI in the evaluation of these tumours related to the big arteries and to compare the different imaging techniques. Many aspects of mammalian life exhibit distinct alterations throughout the 24-h cycle. Morphological, physiological, and biochemical parameters display circadian rhythms which are thought to be generated by an endogenous pacemaker and regulated by environmental factors.
